"🔴 NEW: Israel has authorized the use of electronic tracking devices on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, allowing real-time surveillance of civilians placed under administrative movement restrictions, a new IDF directive states. It applies to civilians who have not been charged, tried, or convicted of any crime, and embeds electronic tagging into Israel’s system of military rule. The measure allows authorities to force individuals to wear or carry monitoring devices and criminalizes tampering. Israel’s defense minister Israel Katz has explicitly excluded Jewish settlers in the West Bank from the order. It was issued with coordination between the Israel Defense Forces, Israel Security Agency, Israel Police, the Ministry of Justice, and the military’s legal authorities for the West Bank. The move aligns with what journalist and filmmaker Antony Loewenstein describes as Israel’s “Palestine Laboratory.” In his work, Loewenstein argues that Israel exports not only weapons, but a model for controlling “difficult populations”—a comprehensive system combining military force, mass surveillance technology, and spatial control. This includes biometric checkpoints, AI-monitored CCTV networks, facial-recognition systems such as Red Wolf and Blue Wolf, and invasive spyware like Pegasus. These tools are deployed against Palestinian civilians, journalists, and non-violent human rights activists, many of whom are subjected to administrative detention or heightened movement and surveillance restrictions.
