"Rabbi Major Liraz Zeira from the Chabad movement (a Jewish religious movement) affixes a mezuzah (a scroll-shaped amulet with religious texts written on it, placed on doorposts) inside the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital in the center of the Gaza Strip, which has been occupied by Israeli occupation forces and turned into an Israeli military barracks. Turning a hospital for non-medical purposes is a violation of international humanitarian law and a war crime under several provisions: 1. Article 19 of the First and Second Geneva Conventions, which stipulates the protection of hospitals and prohibits their use for any military purpose. 2. Article 18 of the Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions, which prohibits the use of medical facilities for purposes that are inconsistent with their medical mission. 3. International criminal law, particularly concerning the International Criminal Court, considers this conversion a war crime if the hospital is used to directly support military operations.
