Ethnic cleansing of Khirbet Yerza

The situation in Khirbet Yerza (or Khirbet Yarza) is highly critical. It is one of the most stark examples of rural displacement happening in the northern Jordan Valley and Tubas Governorate.

Khirbet Yerza was historically a small, tight-knit herding and farming community of about 14 families (~100 people) who had lived on the land for generations, relying entirely on livestock and crop cultivation. Following years of worsening pressure, the community fled the village entirely. Evacuations peaked when residents were given just a three-day ultimatum amid intensive attacks, forcing them to uproot their families, tents, and livestock to seek refuge closer to the city of Tubas.

Over the years, a combination of escalating settler violence, military orders, and targeted economic pressure has effectively devastated the community's way of life. Due to intense, escalating violence from armed settlers—including the burning of pastures, physical assaults, and livestock theft—combined with systemic military demolition orders and "firing zone" restrictions, the resident families were recently forced to completely abandon the village in January 2026 and flee toward Tubas, leaving them displaced and economically devastated.
